Shannon's Eighth Birthday

James Turns one

Last week James turned one. We had lots of wonderful party guests and out of town visitors. They brought lots of fun gifts which he is playing with this moment as I type. Thanks everyone, we had a blast/

Shannon recently wrote and illustrated a book about a sad little horse who lost her ability to neigh. Fortunately, the story has a happy ending.
Anyway, we entered it in a contest for the PBS show Reading Rainbow, and her book won first place in the kindergarten category in Central Texas. We are so proud. She was awarded this backpack and a bunch of other fun stuff.

The local PBS affiliate, KWBU, threw a party for the winners, kindergarten through third grade. The winners are seen here with a soon to be devoured cake and KWBU representative Roxie Collier. In the background you can see Rachel, grandmommy and James' back.

The wonders of nature

During our viset to West Texas for the Anderson family reunion we went to a cookout one night (incredible grilling and some awesome banana pudding) and were treated to some early summer thundershowers in the distance. Here are some of the pictures I took of the sky.

Visit to the Dallas World Aquarium

Shan, Rae and I went to the Dallas World Aquarium recently. It was a blast, though a little costly. I highly recommend it for anyone in Dallas with three or four hours to kill. Below is a slideshow of our visit. Double click on it to get it started.

Shannon graduates!

Shannon recently graduated kindergarten at Waco Montessori, and as part of the ceremony she read a story aloud while classmates acted out the characters.
She's such a good reader at 6-years-old. She walks around the house reading and I practically have to remind her to look up or she will walk into a wall.

James walks!

This video was taken at the Anderson family reunion in Aspermont in June. Although James had taken a step or two before, this really was the first time he walked. He has just turned 10 months old.
Since then we have been rediscovering all the fun and not-so-fun parts of having a very mobile little person tearing around the house.

Introducing James David Anderson

James was born at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, Texas. At the time he was born he weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. Mom and dad Rachel and Mike, and sister Shannon couldn't be happier.
